Phase I Restoration

The renovation of Tuckerman Hall included installation of a service room to better accommodate catering, installation of air conditioning to better accommodate summer activities, handicapped access including an elevator and lifts to facilitate accessibility to 10 different floor levels within the structure, and restoration of interior spaces. Chosen for this project was the highly-respected Boston firm of Finegold, Alexander + Associates Inc, architects and preservation planners.

With the completion of interior renovations, the Symphony was able to open its doors to an expanded constituency. Numerous individuals, as well as arts, civic, cultural, and business organizations are now benefitting from a facility that both retains the grandeur and beauty of an earlier age, yet accommodates present-day needs. The completed Phase I restoration attracts thousands to the newly-rejuvenated facility and will bring enjoyment to countless citizens of the region for years to come. The Phase II restoration of Tuckerman Hall included exterior brick and limestone cleaning; window replacement; and other improvements to the building's Salisbury and Tuckerman Street facades.

Busy seasons since reopening in the fall of 1999, including Music Worcester concerts, have allowed the public, for the first time in many years, to see Tuckerman Hall in the glory that was meant to be.
